Looking For Retailers For Turntable Needles

By Barbara Stevens

A lot of music lovers have large collections of vinyl records that will need a record deck to play them on. CD's and mp3 players are now very common and it is sometimes difficult to locate needles for your record player. When looking for suitable turntable needles, there are various places where you can find and purchase them.

A good quality stylus is one of the most important parts of a record deck because it translates the grooves in the vinyl into the sound you hear. An old or damaged stylus will never produce quality audio and it could also cause a huge amount of damage to your records. There are many different types of needle and it important to find a reputable supplier when you are buying.

The first and best place to locate a replacement stylus is a well established audio equipment dealer in your town or city. These specialist stores will usually carry a decent stock of needles and will usually have a suitable match. If they do not have your item in stock, they will contact a maker or other supplier, and try to source one for you.

The net is a very useful place to buy your needles and there are a large number of online suppliers that carry huge stocks. You will need to spend some time browsing their web site to find a match and it is useful if you have a manufacturer and model number. Many of the web based retailers can find you a match if you send in a good quality photo of your old stylus.

If one of the web retailers or a high street store is unable to help it is worth checking the internet auction sites. The majority of sites will have needles listed and waiting for bids. If you are uncertain about an item, you should email the seller and ask them for some more information, before you place your bids.

Junk stores and charity shops can often be a good place to find audio equipment and most record decks will be sold with a stylus. These stores a particularly useful if you are searching for an older needle that is no longer made or sold by retailers. Prices in these shops are quite low and some big money savings can often be made.

If you know the manufacturer of your needle, it can be worth speaking to them and many will sell direct to the public. The factory will usually have a very good stock of all of items that they have produced in the past. If they do not have one for you they can often recommend another supplier.

Record deck needles are very delicate and they need to be cared for properly to keep them in good condition. If a stylus is not being used it should be kept in its box and stored in a safe place. When you buy a stylus it is advisable to retain the receipt which will be needed if you need to return or exchange it.
