Causes Of Jeep Rocker Arms Failure That You May Need To Know

By Amy Kelly

There has been optimization of Jeep rockers in their design and the materials used over many years so that they can be made to work better. A lot has been done to make them tougher, more durable and more resistant to wear and tear. The cost and the strength of these materials have also improved significantly. All said and done, the performance of is still wanting and the article will highlight some of the Jeep rocker arms failures that you may need to know.

One of the most dominant failures of the mechanism is the having a fracture occurring at the hole of the rocker arm. This is mainly as a result of fatigue from multiple origins. When this happens, there is the spheronization of the cementite that is found in the pearlite that results to having lower fatigue strength when the hardness of the product used in making the arm reduces.

Most of the times, we take good care of our engine to protect it from any damages or fracture. But no matter how hard we try it might get a fracture, and if it occurs in the neck of the arm, then it is bound to bring failure. The fracture will prevent the rocker arm from running, and this will lead to failure.

The machine can handle up to a certain level of stress and above that the load begins to course the load to bend which is another failure. At the time of loading, you need to take consideration of the amount of stress the machine can handle. With excess stress, the load is bound to bend especially when the striation spacing as well as the factor of the range of stress is not considered.

Wearing of the arm pads of rockers is another point that one should be concerned about. This is brought by the wear resistance of the silicon nitrate pads for LPG taxi. That is because it leads to having excess calcium and phosphorous absorption being in contact with surfaces that have been lubricated using the diesel oil. Thus, this causes a significant amount of calcium and zinc dialkyldithiophosphate. Thus, this leads to corrosion due to methanol-chemical reactions.

The other thing that you should do is to avoid carbon gas building up at the valve stem. This gas can cause wear to the inner part of the diameter putting into consideration that this part is in line with the rocker arm-centric line. Ensure that there is a way provided for the gas to exit.

Friction is something else that can cause serious failure. Continuous interaction with the valve stem and the pushrod causes a lot of friction which in most cases it is a result of cheap material. It is said to be a serious cause of the machine fault.

The rocker arm is an essential part of an engine, and when it fails, it makes the engine useless. The replacement and repair are costly, and that is the reason that the designers are trying to come up with a device that will not fail. The engineers are working to make a lightweight product that is strong enough so that the failure can be reduced.
