The Different Opportunities Of A Freelance Television Writer

By Jerry Phillips

Writing for television is not only really fun, but it is very rewarding both on the financial side and also on the career side as well with the many opportunities that it can give. First of all, become a freelance television writer is all about having a specialization wherein one concentrates on one specific field of work. If one excels in one particular field, then he or she will definitely excel in this line of work as a whole.

First of all, one has to specialize in one single field of media writing. There are many types of TV shows that one can write for if he or she chooses to go about with this career. It is all a matter of specialization and also choosing which field to focus in so that one can be successful in his or her pursuit.

The first specialization would be the commercial script writing field which would literally specialize in commercials. For this field, one has to know how to write a script that is very friendly and engaging so that it can relate to the viewers. At the same time, it has to have a rather sales tone that is used to make the viewer want to buy the product being sold.

One other career path that one may consider would writing dialogues and scripts for stories. This one, on the other hand, requires a lot of imagination and a lot of creativity because one will not be writing for a commercial but will rather be writing an entire story. Aside from the story, one will also be writing the dialogues and the scripts of the characters.

Other than that, one may also be a specialize in writing speeches for people who appear on TV and in press cons. These may include government officials, celebrities, and even news casters. Of course, one has to have a background in media in order to understand the tone and the style for writing speeches.

Yet, another job that one can get in the media field is to be a transcriber. The job of a transcriber is a rather simple one wherein he or she will record the things that people say during interviews, speeches, and others of the same kind. The key to being a good transcriber is to be detail oriented and have sharp ears.

The last on the list would be to become a journalist itself and write news reports that are to be shown on TV. The main job of a journalist for television is to find a newsworthy story and work together with the TV stations in order to publish it. The journalist will write the story and then create a background about it for the news caster.

Out of all these jobs, one just have to make sure that he or she has the expertise and the experience to take this kind of job. The great thing about these jobs is that they can be done on a freelance basis which means that one does not need to work from nine to five. It can also be done home based so that one does not need to report to an office in order to work.
