Tips To Enhance Energy Efficiency Oklahoma

By Jerry Powell

On average, every home in US will spend more than 2,100 dollars on energy. Some will spend more while others will spend less. This does not make the amount any affordable for an ordinary home. Experts advise home owners to institute measures that will enhance energy efficiency Oklahoma. These measures do not deny you any form of comfort. However, they will save you a great deal.

Use programmable thermostats around the house. This trick has been known to reduce power cost by up to 10 percent. The idea behind thermostats is to switch off the system when desired temperature has been achieved. It is used when heating and also cooling the house. With automatic switching on and off, the AC or any other appliance will never run unnecessarily. Your spending on power will therefore be justified.

Appliances and lights should be switched off whenever they are not in use. It is common to leave lights in a room on yet there is no occupant. Appliances are also left in idle mode, assuming that they are not consuming significant power. Switch off any computer, television, printer and lights that are not in use. It is the cumulative minor consumption incidences that result in an inflated power bill. In fact, experts recommend that you unplug the appliances and gadgets from the wall whenever they are not in use.

Switch to energy efficient bulbs and installations inside and outside the house. Bulbs are major consumers of power in the house. Luckily, technology has allowed innovative bulbs to reduce the amount of power you consume. By using the halogen incandescent, CFL and LED technology bulbs, you stand to between 30 and 80 percent power consumption on lighting. You can identify these bulbs by their eco-friendly labeling while on shelves.

Maintain gadgets and appliances in your house. Faulty appliances consume a lot of energy. For instance, if the AC has a damaged duct, it will have to overwork in order to meet the needs of your house. These inefficiencies mean that you require more power. When the wastage is cumulative, you end up spending too much unnecessarily. When these appliances are functioning optimally, your consumption will be justified.

Update your equipment and appliances to the latest models. Technology has improved with companies competing to reduce power consumption to the lowest level without affecting the output. These improvements affect air conditioning, fridges, washing machines and dish washers, among others. While updated equipment are expensive to buy, their consumption is significantly low over time.

Insulate your house appropriately. This means that all holes must be sealed. The idea is to ensure that the AC is serving an enclosed space. If there are holes on the ceiling where hot air is escaping or cold air coming into the house, your AC will have to overwork in order to maintain desired conditions. This overworking results in a high power bill. Avoid opening doors, fridges and ovens unnecessarily because they have to overwork to restore heat or cold.

Natural heating and cooling will reduce your power consumption. If your interior can be warmed by opening the windows and drawing blinds, you can use the trick. Close the curtains to prevent sun rays from warming your interior. Such measures might appear minor but they go a long way towards reducing power consumption in the house.
